I like the design for this one. The hat covers the Mickey shape some, but I think it comes out well. An army of these would be cool. I do wonder if it will be in a tin or window box.

I hope they still do tins for the special event vinyls. I agree, an army of these would be cool. I think I will stop at two though. One for each end of my holiday display.

I have never traded/bought vinylmations at WDW before and I was curious how quickly things sell out down there. I REALLY want to buy the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party 2010 3'" and we won't be arriving in Florida until Monday the 15th. Is it possible that there will still be some of these figures left? Or do releases like this typically sell out before the weekend is over?

I was going to ask about this. So am I correct in thinking that anyone can buy this and you dont have to attend the Christmas party to get one??

I would guess they would have enough to go threw out the season, but since they did not say the amount released, I am not sure.

I suppose the only real difference is that it's only available in the MK, not at D Street.

Yes, you don't have to attend the event to buy this. You didn't have to last year either. These will most definitely be around for the whole season. There were plenty around last year.

For these types of event figures do we usually just buy it from their website or is ebay the only way to go?

They rarely show up on the website. I know the F&G and Epcot holidays did, but I think that's only because they overproduced those compared to the interest. I don't forsee these making it to the website. Your best bet would to put a request on the out of towners list.

I finally got around to buying one of these today. Anyone else notice on the receit it rings up as "VNY NUTCRACKER 3"? How's that look like a Nut Cracker?
I think this design was actually held off from releasing last year. Maybe because they didn't establish accessories yet at the time?

Disney Channel used to play Babes in Toyland Christmas Eve night. I don't remember how many years in a row they played it but it was a few. I remember being disappointed the year they decided to stop this mini tradition. It had to be somewhere around the early or mid nineties.
I also used to watch a show taped off the disney channel that had the characters skating and singing carols and there were a bunch of the toy soldiers. Scrooge McDuck sang a song about how Dec. 26th was the greatest day of the year. There was a show and dinner at one of the hotels on property that was almost identical to the disney channel program that I went to in '94.

I was looking at the vinylmation website and on the blog page is says that the toy soldier will be released on Nov 8th, but on the events page it has it being released on Nov 12th. I am confused. I thought that it was being released in California on the 12th but in Florida on the 8th. Someone is picking this up for me and I would hate to have them go on the wrong date! Does anyone know if that is an error? Are they going to be released at D-Street in Florida? Thanks for any help!

You're right, the date is confusing! However I don't think that the vinyls will be released at D-street in WDW, as it's not mentioned either on the blog or the events page.

No there is really no phone number to call for answers to your vinylmation questions. You just need to wait to see if they make a change to correct the dates on the vinylmation website. I personally think they just made a mistake on the events page since they're coming out on the 12th in DLR they just put the same date for WDW. I would go by the date that they said in the blog, which was Nov. 8th. But that's just my opinion.

Someone should ask Steve through a comment on the Disney Parks blog. This would be the quickest response to our question.

I'm pretty sure that WDWgirl hit the nail on the head.
Seeing as the Toy Soldier is attached to MVMCP, and the Spectacle of Lights is attached to the eponymous event, it only makes sense that both figures will launch on Nov. 8th, in the respective parks, when those two events start.
I'm sure the figures will be available at D-Street eventually, but I'd expect to find them in the MK and Studios, respectively, first.

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/11/a-vinylmation-holiday-celebration/#comments
Steven Miller:
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Spectacle of Dancing Lights – are being released on Monday, November 8. This is in conjunction with the start of those two events. The Epcot Holidays Around the World figure should be released at the start of that holiday celebration later this month.
They will release the 8th in WDW and the 12th for DLR.
At WDW they're releasing in the parks coinciding with the start of the holiday event, but like Phylers said they'll most likely end up at D-Street sometime after the initial release.

Someone was selling one on ebay and it does not come with a tin. Since they previewed the new packaging for the Holidays Around the World and after seeing it is the same for the Soldier, I would also believe that Spectacle of Dancing Lights is the same and it is the new vinyl with display stage packaging.

It's doubtful that they'll be split evenly between dlr and wdw. WDW will probably get more as that's usually what happens with LE vinyls. Plus the vinyl does represent an event that takes place in WDW so it only makes sense that they would get more than dlr, but I could be wrong.

I am very confused now. (This is not a new thing for me though) I saw the picture where it said that the edition size is 6000, but why is it not on the official blog as limited edition? Do you think that they printed the boxes and then decided to make it limited release instead? I was wondering if that number will last through all of the parties. Do the holiday vinyls usually sell out pretty quickly?

I am very confused now. (This is not a new thing for me though) I saw the picture where it said that the edition size is 6000, but why is it not on the official blog as limited edition? Do you think that they printed the boxes and then decided to make it limited release instead? I was wondering if that number will last through all of the parties. Do the holiday vinyls usually sell out pretty quickly?
Last year the holiday ones were available way past the holidays, except for the Spectacle of Dancing Lights ones, which seemed to be the first one to sell out. Now, with last year's, none of them were an LE so it is too hard to give an answer as these could sell out quickly, or take a while, there really is no way to tell.

I posted a question earlier today and it seems to have been deleted and I don't know why... I wanted to confirm that you DO have to go to the Christmas Party to get the toy soldier. I have friends going to Magic Kingdom but they are not going to the party and wondered if they will be denied...Thanks!

The theme for the vinyl just comes from the Toy Soldiers in the parade. The vinyl itself was released last night in conjuction with the first party but is now available all day. I got mine today at the Emporium and they had lots of them available.

They are super cute and I can't wait to get mine but seeing them like that just does not feel like a vinylmation. Looks more like a holiday ornament. I get the idea behind letting the average guest see what's inside but it sort of looses that vinylmation feel for me.
I remember last year when we got previews of the tins, it's all everyone could talk about, bummer :(

I haven't picked mines up yet but I think I'll pick it up this weekend when we go to Disney. The box makes it look like the vinyl plays music, lol. Still, I'm not to happy about the box, I'd really prefer the tin but that's my own opinion and it really doesn't make a difference.

We got ours yesterday at Magic Kingdom. They had a lot of them there if anyone cares. Nice little box but still does not beat the old tin boxes. I also would rather have them put the warning sign on the back of the box not on the front lower right hand side.

its sad to see the tins go but these new boxes are beefy! I wasn't expecting it to be thick cardboard. I really like the stand that doubles as the button of the box. It doesn't look cheap at all :thumbsup:

Apparently they're sold out in WDW. And they don't sell them at D Street. I can't believe they sold out before the last party. Absolutely ridiculous. Update - after asking about 10 different cast members at several different shops at the Magic Kingdom yesterday and hearing from most that the Toy Soldiers were sold out, I was in the park tonight during the transition to the Christmas party and found about 20 of them on the shelf at the Trading Post in Frontierland, which was one of the stores I had checked last night. The Emporium did not have them and I actually heard a cast member tell another customer that they had been sold out park-wide for weeks. She didn't appreciate it when I butted in and corrected her.

We had a very difficult time finding any on Saturday evening, finally finding some at the Trading Post after checking all around the park. We asked if they would check the back stock for more, but they said they didn't have any. Apparently they did find some more in back or the warehouse is still finding them.

Something cool on the Disney Parks blog today about the toy soldiers:
Throughout Town Square stands a small brigade of brightly painted soldiers. I wondered about the history of these whimsical fellows, and was able to contact Steven Vagnini, Archivist at the Walt Disney Archives, who was quick to explain:
“Indeed, the marching toy soldiers were inspired by those seen in the 1961 Disney musical, ‘Babes in Toyland.’ In the film, the toy-sized soldiers were given the illusion of life through stop-motion animation by Disney Legends X. Atencio and Bill Justice. Life-size versions of the soldiers first appeared in Disneyland in the 1960’s and have become a Disney Parks tradition ever since.”
