View Full Version : Reverence for Park 1's

This might be a strange question, but I'm a fairly new collector, but have been thinking about getting at least one Park 1, in homage to the legacy of starting it all. However, because it will likely be the most expensive 3" I will ever own, I'm having trouble picturing it mixed in with my other ones! (Especially since my 5-year-old likes to hold and rearrange them, too!) Do any of you find yourselves displaying your Park 1's separately? Or hiding them away and not displaying them at all?

I only have 1 Park 1 and I have him mixed in with my other vinyls. He has a "special" spot in my case (front and center), but he's still mixed in. Personally, I don't see the point in owning such a valuable piece and hiding it away. If you're going to buy a pricey vinyl, you might as well show him off! If you're worried about your 5-year old playing with it, I would put it on a higher shelf or out of reach somewhere, but I definitely wouldn't hide it away!
Which Park 1 are you leaning towards getting?

im still trying to decide on which ones of park 1 i will eventually go after. they are all pricey, and there are a lot of other sets/pieces that i want to try and get before going after them. being a new collector, there are still some older ones that are relatively reasonable, so im going to piece those together first, but then i WILL go after a few park 1s. "eddie the snow monster" as my little girl calls him will probably be the first. :)

I also own a few Park 1 and like to show them off. Well I only have 1 now that I am looking at them. lol. I have the Red Monorail and it goes on the top shelf. I have a 2 and 5 year old and they know which ones they can touch and which ones they cannot. I buy extra ones for them to play with so they leave mine alone.

Park 1 and Urban 1 each have there own very special case and are the only VMs in our living room. (The clears that you see have bee removed and escorted to my office with the rest of the collection.
I agree that Park 1's are very special and expensive. Kind of like artwork. That is how I treat them. But then again most of what I own is in cases.

I have been doing the Urban 1's and thought I would do the park 1's next, I feel your pain, that cost is OUCH, i really should have hit the black boxes when I was in WDW but I think by the time I was in there there were pretty much gone, or when I went to trade city I really should have brought some 3" ones to see if I could have gotten lucky, well missed the boat again, but really had a blast at trade city anyway, good luck with your hunt and hope you get a good one. tigger out.

I'd love to get most of these, but your right they are pricey. I do think I will go after the red monorail though. I got the green and blue so I do want to have them all. Good luck and post what you get when you do.

I'd love a creepy wallpaper, but the auctions for those ramp up way too high for me. Hopefully someday!

That is the only Park 1 I have and I definitely paid a premium to get him. He's mainly the reason why I haven't branched out to buy any other Park 1s yet!! Best of luck to you--it's a really great vinyl.

I've sat with my finger on the "Buy It Now" button so many times, but the price tag upwards of $100 makes my heart race, and I just can't do it. At most so far, I have spent $30 on ones I really wanted, and was OK with that, but I can't deal with the triple digits. Yet.

That's the other one I'd love to have. I yearn for Creepy Wallpaper because I'm a HM fan, but I think Kermit is the best design of the Park 1's, perhaps tied with the balloon chaser.

:agree: Buying the kids their own mickeys is a good idea  My niece likes to play with auntie "Story's" mickeys, but she knows that "playing" with my mickeys means holding them, and then putting them back on the shelf- I don't let her out of my sight while she holds them either
As far as displaying park 1s, I display mine with the rest of my collection. I collect vinyls based on how well they go with the rest of my collection, and I group them together as to which ones go with which. I am in the works of making another shelf for my vinyls tho, where I will display the vinyls that are very special to me, and will not be easily seen by my sweet little niece :) (Or at least she will not that those mickeys are special special mickeys )
Hope you can add a park 1 to your collection soon! :)

Wow, I started this thread so long ago when I first started collecting, it was neat to see it pop up again! Since my original post, I was able to purchase a Park 1 Kermit from a wonderful VN member, and it was under $100, so I was very happy. He is worth every penny, and the crown jewel of my collection. (And he lives happily on display with Rowlf, my other favorite Muppet. They are awaiting the Electric Mayhem Band, who will join them soon...) :)

I am in love with Park 1 and am very slowly trying to complete the set. The toughest ones that I still need to find are Kermit and Creepy Wallpaper... my favorite vinyl EVER is Figment... he is truly my holy grail even though I own the balloon chaser. Park 1's definitely have an aura around them!

Being someone who just got into collecting I look back on Park 1 and can only dream. The prices on those are crazy. It doesn't help that the few I want are probably the most wanted out of the collection. I can always dream to find one for a decent price.

My only vinyl I have from Park 1 is Kermit the Frog. He was definitely expensive for a 3" vinyl figure, luckily I bought him for $48 still sealed in the foil so I had the honor of opening him up from the foil, it was an amazing moment. He sit's front in center in my display of so far 87 Vinylmations. This was back when Kermit went for $100, which wasn't too long ago back in November I think. He is definitely my favorite next to Pongo. The seller had a whole bunch of 1-day park 1 auctions. I was so amazed I got him for the price I did. :kermit:

My only Park 1 is the Yeti. I have him in a display case from the container store along with 11 of my first vinyls (Mistly Park 2's and 3's. I'd love to someday get a Red Monorail, Tea Cups, and Kermit. Good luck on your hunt, it can be fun!

When I started, they were on Park 5. I looked at Park 1 and I really love some of them, but I swore to myself I wouldn't go spending the money on out-of-print stuff. I don't have that kind of disposable income. One of the items on the 'if I won the lottery' list would be going back to get all the Park series. At most, I'd probably allow myself one, for some very, very special occasion. I'd have a hard time deciding on just 1 from the first series though. My heart says Figment, as I always enjoyed that ride. But then I see Kermit and the balloon and go hmmmmmm.
And of course I've just gone on E-bay and I'm now watching a couple of figments that are currently under $100. Maybe for my birthday!

I keep telling myself that I don't need any Park 1s. But, my son LOVES the color red and thus wants the Red Monorail to add to our fleet of Blue and Orange. (I wouldn't let him keep the 5 Blue Monorails that we got from one online order of 8 blind boxes from DS.com)

I'd love to get my hands on a few of the Park 1's, especially the creepy wallpaper. But I don't think I can take that leap yet. I have my eyes on the Red Monorail (since I think completing the monorail set is a good little first project) and I'd love to indulge one day on Magical Stars.
All that being said I've only just started so I'm not sure how crazy I should go just yet. Still not totally sure what are good prices or anything.

We have 2.
DD got kermit in a blind box pull in early 2009 at AoD in downtown disney. I think she actually wanted creepy wallpaper, but that vinyl has always held a place of honor in her collection. She is also very happy to own the Muppets 1 chaser and 3D kermit.
The other - she pulled SMRT from a mystery box at the pin store at downtown disney this past April (yes, good pulls do and can happen). DD had no idea what it was (she thought it was a park 4). She got so excited at D street when she found out what she had!

I only have 2 Park 1 figures and I love them both! Bad/Poisoned Apple (that I picked up for under 100) and Figmouse (that I got for $115 shipped.) Paying that much for one small vinyl figure was sort of painful, but definitely worth it :)

I have two park ones in my collection - smart - 1 and teacups. I got them both through trading at wdw a couple of years ago.
