Hi
My husband heard from his brother that if you go to Disney on the day of your birthday, you get some kind of "park cash" to spend in the park (he was vague on the details  ). Does anyone know anything about this?

I think that was a promotion from last year. There were three birthday options and for passholders one option was the cost of a single day ticket as a gift card. I went on my birthday last year and chose that, I think it was around a $75 gift card. Oh if I had only known what vinyls were then!! :)

That was the promotion Disney was offering last year with the Year of a Million Dreams (I don't think they are still running this promotion).
We made everyone in my family went last year on their birthday to get the $75 GC. My son, the other Vinyl collector used his towards our first official tray of Vinylamtions - Clears LOL! WebBetty & vinylnewbie, YES, if we only new then what we know now...

I considered going down last year on my birthday. But saving $75 didn't seem worth it considering the price of a plane ticket.

Yeah, sadly the birthday gift cards are no more. But on the bright side, there's still free cake!

What free cake? I only know that you get a button and tortillas. Shucks I missed my birthday this year.

i DO know from experience, when making your room ressies, dining ressies, etc, always, always, ALWAYS add what youre celebrating. when we went last month, we added our anniversary to EVERY dining reservation and we had probably had free desserts 6-7 times that week. of course, it wasnt ideal since we were already on the deluxe dining plan, so it was overkill basically. on a side note, ive never been as tired of eating as i was on the last two days of our trip...and as a big fella, thats something i thought id never say!

It's similar to what kgar211 (love that handle by the way - every time I see it, in my head, I hear, "I am K-Gar of the Hill People" :D) said.
When you go to a park on your birthday, make sure you get the birthday button, and, most importantly, make sure you wear it! If you're eating at any of the table service restaurants, and the CM spots your button, voila - singing and free cake.
You can also just tell them when making your reservation that you're celebrating a birthday, but personally, I think the button way is more fun. ;-)

I remember one of my birthday, I got free ice creams, desserts and free cake, lol. I was buying an ice cream with my brother and the CM sang to me and then asked me to choose an ice cream and I got it for free. I got two free ice cream from two different places. Then my brother and I ate, I can't remember which restaurant in Disney, for lunch and I got a free dessert. Then for dinner, we ate at a Resort and I got a free birthday cake. Then for my brother's birthday, which landed on Thanksgiving Day, we ate at Whispering Canyon and I told the CM about my brother's birhday and at the end of our dinner, he got a free birthday cake. Lastly, about two years ago, I took my wife, who was my fiancee back then, for her birthday @ Boma and I told the CM who I made reservation with about her birthday and she got a free cake.
Last year was the year that we got to choose from 3 gifts from Disney, which my wife and I choose the gift card, that was awesome.

Dessert's not really my thing, but wearing the button around the park is pretty fun - all the cast members wish you happy birthday and you'll even be able to spot some cast members not in costume who do that too :)

I didn't get a free cake, but I did get a fantastic solid white chocolate mickey holding a happy birthday banner on a plate along with chocolate covered strawberries, bon bons and cookies. It was waiting for me when we returned from a day at the parks. The GF sure knows how to do it up right!

Yes, definitely wearing the button is really cool. My brother and one of our friend, who's suppose to be on this board too but for some reason, he states that he can't post, blah blah blah, lol, anyways, we have a contest on who spots anyone with a celebration button and we'll great them on whatever buttom they have. We go by point system. The lowest is birhday and the highest is anniversary. The wild card is "First Time" lol. It's really fun, we got my wife to get involved with it and I'm definitely going to get my son get involve with it too as soon as he can speak, lol.

Went on my B-day last year. They actually had a few different options to choose from, like a special FastPass and free admission, but I would guess the gift card was the most popular. Mine actaully came out to $79 when I got it (after the Aug 2009 ticket price increase) and it was very nice to have.
There were three birthday options and for passholders one option was the cost of a single day ticket as a gift card.
You did not have to be a AP to get the gift card.
Also as mentioend when you have your birthday info attached to any ADR's you made you do get a free dessert. Nothing exquisite, but still free.

That's a really good idea. We always greet the first timer's but it never really occurred to me to greet everyone with a button. Thanks for the post!
