When we talked to the Vinylmation Team they said there would only be 8 vinyls - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale. So right now it looks like Stitch will not be out as a vinyl as yet. Maybe if this series does well it will come out down the road.

Nerds Rock is a new merchandise line at the theme parks. It features Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Chip and Dale as "nerds" where they have the glasses with the bridge taped, pocket protectors, pencils in their ears, braces, etc.. There are so far shirts and bags and pajama appearal out there, but there are other items coming like pins and VINYLMATION!! We just have no date on when the vinyls will be released.

There is no target date as yet, just keep checking back and as soon as we hear it will definitely be posted on here. And they are going to be window boxed and actually there will be 8 designs - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale.

I'm really excited about this series!!! I saw the Chip & Dale nerds on this site and just from seeing those two- it definitely sold me. I just love the glasses with tape on them...a must have to my collection!! Shortly after, I saw all the merchandise at Disneyland and thought the other characters looked pretty cute. I can't wait to see all the other characters transformed into vinyls. I definitely want to get the bag & backpack. The prices for them were pretty reasonable!!

Let's face it - nerds do indeed rock! We love these two figures from the upcoming series. It is based on a new art program that was recently introduced. There are tee-shirts, Disney pins and more are based on the art style.

When released, the Nerds Rock series will be open window box (which means you can select your favorite nerd). The Chip and Dale figures will have removable glasses. Any guesses as to who the other characters will be in this series? Just look at the Nerds Rock! items next time you are at Disney Parks and Resorts.

I bet they made them removable since at Trade City the set that was on display had a broken set of glasses due to them not being removable at the time. It could be a positive so they won't have a lot of them getting broken.

I can't remember which one, but on one of them the arms were broken off and only the frame was on the nose of the vinyl. When we asked if they were supposed to be that way they said that the glasses were actually broken and weren't supposed to be that way. Makes me think they decided to change them from being a part of the vinyl to an accessory.

I wish in the blog posts they would hint at when they are going to release these series. I am so excited to get these, and a few of the occupation ones, too. Does anyone have an idea if they'll be out before 2011? I know there's a Nerds Rock! hip lanyard pin set that's supposed to come out in November/December.

It seems like there are parallel tracks developing. I'd bet that series that can "fill" twelve slots with some popular characters but also more obscure characters will keep being blind boxed, like Star Wars, Muppets, Park, and probably Haunted Mansion. And obviously Urban and Cutesters. But the series in which the VMs are mainly all equally recognizable and universal, like animals, big eyes, occupations, sports, etc. in which a buyer might likely want "just one" that reflects their favorite, would be open boxed. So they're serving two different kinds of buyers. I like having both options. Of course, I haven't been collecting since the beginning of VM, so I don't notice any loss in the 'spirit" of it. But I would think that as long as the blind boxes remain a mainstay for people who like the element of the chase, I'd think the two could coexist peacefully.

Also, I think the open boxed series VMs often stand alone better than others. Case in point, I'll be buying probably just Minnie and/or Daisy from the Nerds set, even though I am SO excited for the series to be released. I just have my favorite characters, and it seems that the design element will be much the same, so I don't need all of them. Now for Haunted Mansion, or Star Wars, I'd expect more variety and obscurity in design within the set. (And I'll be standing in line for a case of HM to be sure I get them all!)

Truthfully, I was surprised that NBC was open boxed. That one is kind of the fly in the soup of my theory.

I seriously thought there were other characters on the nerds rock merchandise. I know I dont see them on the bags and shirts, but I thought I saw stitch as one of the nerds characters. I would have loved to see him as a nerds character, and I'm sure the Japanese tourists would have loved that too.

seeing these up close at the FOTM's last weekend has def gotten me excited for these. The best part is they showed my fav's chip and dale and my wifes fav Donald. They have not displayed the whole set as of yet. So far all we have seen is Chip, Dale and Donald. Usually they don't show us previews until they are close to being the final sample so we can see what they will actually look like. Keep watch, as more become available they will keep giving us more previews.

Just my opinion but I don't think Disney really cares about "unannounced release dates" anymore...LOL I mean, for instance, they announced the release date of Cutesters Too for February 4th and we are yet to see any pictures except the 3 little kids we saw previewed at the Trade City event along with the donut design. I wouldn't be surprised if they announce the release date a few days before the actual release.

When we talked to the Vinylmation Team they said there would only be 8 vinyls - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale. So right now it looks like Stitch will not be out as a vinyl as yet. Maybe if this series does well it will come out down the road.

You're not dreaming, because I remember that being discussed too. I know I read somewhere here that it'd be like the Wall-E sets, and the pairs you listed are the same ones I remember. But I don't remember either where I read that, who said it, and if it was a guess or something official.

That said, I'm not too sure about this series to begin with. I guess I just don't get the point, and it seems kind of silly to me that they have a whole merch line for this type of stuff. C&D are cute, but the Rescue Rangers vinyls should be much better. As for Donald... Not his best look, I'm afraid. :donald: :pet:

I hope these aren't combo sets like Wall-E/Eve...then I'll never be able to afford these plus other releases! This is insane having no communication from Disney. I think if they're going to have weekly releases, they need to hire 1 person to just deal with Vinylmation...not pins and trading in general, just Vinylmation. Just my opinion though!

I love these!! But I do hope they make the Stitch nerd. He's my favorite. I like the nerds so much that the other day at DL I got the nerds rock blue hoodie sweater eventhough it's made for kids. I'm not as impressed with these guys as I thought I would be. I think the Nerds Rock! pins came out a lot cuter. Where is Minnie's bow? Why is half of Mickey's mouth on his chest? Let's face it - nerds do indeed rock! We love these two figures from the upcoming series. It is based on a new art program that was recently introduced. There are tee-shirts, Disney pins and more are based on the art style.

When released, the Nerds Rock series will be open window box (which means you can select your favorite nerd). The Chip and Dale figures will have removable glasses. Any guesses as to who the other characters will be in this series? Just look at the Nerds Rock! items next time you are at Disney Parks and Resorts.

Actually I was thinking just the opposite. I thought I would buy all of them but now that I see pictures of them, I am not very taken with the Mickey or Minnie figurines (can't believe that I am saying that as I usually buy anything like that) and not sure about Goofy either.

Chip, Dale and Donald are must haves - will have to wait until I see Daisy to decide on her.

Thanks for that! I was trying to figure out why she looked so weird and that's exactly what it is, she's missing her bow. Mickey is soooo adorable though.

Wouldn't think so - they will be available as individual window boxes so that you can buy whichever ones you want.

On the **********************.com blog post about Nerds Rock they captured screen shots of the video from the Vinylmation Events Page. In the one of the actual vinyls on display you can see Minnie in the bottom left of the frame and see that she has a bow on her ear.

They also posted a screen shot of the poster with the Vinyls on it and you can see what looks to be a bow on daisy's ear in that picture. She is on the bottom row second from the left. The picture is very fuzzy though.

The difference between the Big Eyes (and NBC) series and the Nerds series, is that the Big Eyes series was designed to initially be a blind box series with 11 designs and 1 mystery chaser. The "mistake" Disney made was telling us that Pie Eyed was supposed to be the "chaser" for the set had they kept the series blind boxed, but then they decided to make it open windowed. So people went on buying them out as if they were more rare than others, but they aren't in terms of numbers produced. It seems like the Nerds series was designed to be open boxed from the start with 8 designs. So "chaser"? No, not like Pie Eyed or Pumpkin King. But will there be figures more popular than others? Sure, it happens for every series. Though it'll be hard to say which one, they're all well done and you can't go wrong with the Fab 5 + Chip and Dale. Now if Stitch mysteriously is revealed as a vinyl, that's your "chaser".

thanks thats what i wanted to hear, i can totally understand some being more popular but having a actual "chaser" that is windowed makes it VERY difficult for those that can't go vinyl hunting regularly to get a hold of them without over paying for them on ebay

No, just because something will be sold on ds.com that doesn't mean that it will also be sold in Disney Stores. For example the Park series is sold on ds.com but will never be sold in Disney Stores because it's a parks exclusive.

That is what I originally thought too. However, I have never noticed it say ds.com/store, unless I have just missed it. Well I will be calling my store the weekend before just to check.
